YLS Community Law Week
Each year, the YLS Service to the Public Committee plans Community Law Week. 2012 Community Law Week provided legal education, access and assistance to the public through a series of events held April 26-May 5. Events included a student filmmaking contest, a fundraiser for SALC, Tell it to the Judge and Free Legal Information Booths. Community Law Week is a great opportunity for local attorneys to help bolster public opinion of the bar and its members. Dozens of volunteers made Community Law Week 2012 a success.
SALC Fundraiser - April 26, 5-7 pm
Community Law Week kicked off with a fundraiser event for St. Andrew Legal Clinic at the Shaffer Art Gallery (308 SW First Avenue). Attendees enjoyed music, appetizers (provided by Art de Cuisine Catering), and drinks. A suggested donation of $10 per person benefitted St. Andrew Legal Clinic.
Free Legal Information Booths - April 30 and May 5
Free legal information booths were set up at two locations in Multnomah County to provide the public with general legal information and disseminate free brochures. Booths were set up at Pioneer Courthouse Square on Monday, April 30 and at Lloyd Center on Saturday, May 5.
Tell it to the Judge - May 5, noon-4 pm
This one-day event on Saturday, May 5 at Lloyd Center Mall allowed local citizens with questions, concerns or opinions to talk directly with a local judge. Volunteers facilitated public interaction with the judges.
The YOUthFILM Project - May 3, 6:30 pm
The 2012 YOUthFILM Project held a screening and awards ceremony at the Hollywood Theatre in Northeast Portland at 6:30 pm on Thursday, May 3. Top films were screened for the public and prizes were awarded by Oregon Supreme Court Justice, Paul J. De Muniz.
