Young Lawyers Section (YLS)

What is the YLS?

The Young Lawyers Section was created in 1980. Approximately one fourth of the MBA's members are "young lawyers" - members in practice less than six years or under the age of 36. The YLS provides leadership, networking, professional development and service opportunities, in addition to a business development network. And we have fun!

Most current leaders of the bar and bench are involved, or have had some prior leadership experience, with the MBA. And the MBA YLS is a great place to start honing your leadership skills and raising your profile. Most referrals come from other lawyers so this is the place to plant the seeds to cultivate future clients and/or to find new career opportunities.

Current YLS leaders are on the YLS Board page. To get involved, email them or look for the committee volunteer form in the Multnomah Lawyer each spring.

Join the YLS

Membership is free for the first year of admission in Oregon or Washington and there is a discounted rate for the second year in practice. Hardship waivers are available on a limited basis for lawyers within their first five years of practice. The MBA also provides un- or underemployed member CLE rates and a mentor program, to assist you in starting off on the right foot. For a printable version of the membership application click here.
