Civil Litigation Legal Assistant
Cosgrave Vergeer Kester LLP has an opening for a legal assistant. Primary responsibilities include general drafting and finalizing of legal documents, pleadings and correspondence, and docketing. The position supports a variety of practice areas that may include construction, personal injury, product liability, and other types of civil litigation. Use your versatile skills and experience to handle a wide variety of assignments in a professional, team-oriented work environment.
Cosgrave is located in the heart of downtown Portland, one block from MAX and bus routes with close access to Pioneer Square Mall and the waterfront. Qualifications: 
  • Civil litigation support experience.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook. 
  • Working knowledge of Prolaw and NetDocs helpful.
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading abilities.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, manage time, and multitask effectively.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required.
  • Familiar with local, state and federal court rules.
  • Experience with e-filing in Oregon and Washington for both state and federal courts.

Business Practice Hybrid Legal Assistant/Paralegal
Cosgrave Vergeer Kester has an immediate opening for an experienced, organized, and self-starting hybrid legal assistant / paralegal to assist attorneys in managing a busy business and estate planning practice. 
The ideal candidate will: 
  • Have at least five successive years of experience in the areas of real estate, business and financial transactions, corporate formation and governance. Experience with estate planning and probate a plus. 
  • Draft and edit routine correspondence and memoranda.
  • Prepare a variety of legal documents including purchase and sale agreements, asset purchase agreements, stock sale agreements, promissory notes, trust deeds, options, guaranties, easements, and leases. 
  • Assist occasionally with preparation of estate planning documents and probate e-filing. 
  • Work with your attorneys to support and assist long-standing client relationships. 
  • Work independently regarding all aspects of entity formation, corporate administration and maintenance, including preparing resolutions and consents; and maintaining corporate minute books.
  • Coordinate due diligence for commercial and residential real estate transactions, including requesting property information from title companies; prepare and e-record deeds, mortgages, easements, etc.
  • Assist attorneys in managing additional business matters including mergers & acquisitions, and other strategic corporate transactions, including managing due diligence, accessing public records and assisting in the closing of transactions.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of ProLaw and NetDocs desirable. 
  • Be a highly organized, self-starter who is able to keep track of details, deadlines, calendaring, and prioritize work flow accordingly.
  • Have ability to solve problems as they arise and provide excellent client service.
  • Be able to work well as an integral and valued team player in a small practice group.
Paralegal certificate and/or college degree preferred. A combination of experience and training may be substituted. Schedule is 8:30 am to 5:00 pm with ability to occasionally work additional time as needed.

Attorney-in-Charge
The Oregon Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking applicants for the Attorney-In-Charge of the Financial Fraud/Consumer Protection Section of the Civil Enforcement Division. This position will be split between the Portland and Salem offices (3 days per week in Portland, 2 days per week in Salem). 
The Financial Fraud/Consumer Protection Section invokes the Attorney General's civil enforcement authority to deter, stop, and punish unlawful and fraudulent conduct in consumer transactions. The Section enforces Oregon's consumer protection laws, including the Unlawful Trade Practices Act by taking action in many areas important to consumers, including but not limited to elder financial abuse, student loans, pharmaceutical fraud and internet privacy, including data breaches. The Section provides direct assistance to individual consumers and engages in cooperative enforcement with other local, state and federal agencies. In addition, the Section is involved in preventive consumer education, antitrust enforcement, health care issues, and multistate consumer protection efforts.
The Attorney-In-Charge is responsible for managing the work of 13 attorneys, as well as coordinating with a staff of Investigators and Enforcement Officers. The preferred applicant will have a demonstrated interest in consumer protection and will possess extensive civil litigation and negotiation experience (including significant courtroom experience). Experience working on multiparty cases or fraud cases, as well as experience working with legislative issues and coordinating with other agencies is helpful. The preferred applicant will demonstrate a strong work ethic and outstanding analytical and advocacy skills. Prior management experience is desired.
This position will be filled at the Supervising Attorney level (Principal Executive Manager H), salary range $118,584-157,980. Starting salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
