MBA Committees

MBA committees create and manage various projects and offer tailored volunteer opportunities for MBA members. Some volunteer commitments involve limited time and activity while others involve monthly participation. Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Committee

This committee plans, conducts and evaluates 30-35 CLE seminars, focusing on members' dominant areas of practice. If you have a suggestion for a CLE speaker or topic, call the MBA at 503.222.3275. Committee roster.

Courthouse and Court Funding Committee

This committee is developing a plan with other stakeholders, including the presiding judge, court administrator, state, county, city and local officials and staff, law enforcement, developers and local businesses, and MBA members, to effectively support and advance the ongoing efforts to build a new courthouse. This committee also works to increase public and legislative awareness about the importance of a fully-funded court system. Members help maintain a sustained educational effort focused on four key areas: vulnerable citizens, family law, civil disputes and public safety. Committee roster.

Court Liaison Committee

The purpose of this committee is to foster constructive dialogue with the Multnomah County Circuit Court presiding judge and court administrator with regard to current practices, or to rules or procedural changes before they are implemented by the court. Committee roster.

Equality & Diversity Committee

The Equality and Diversity Committee's mission is to foster and expand diversity, inclusion and equality in the MBA and Multnomah County legal community, and to create and strengthen a relationship of mutual support between the MBA and its diverse lawyers and bar organizations. Committee roster.

Golf Committee

The committee plans and conducts 4-6 golf events between April and October, including the MBA Championship, which benefits the Volunteer Lawyers Project at LASO. Committee roster and photos.

Judicial Screening Committee

This 21-lawyer and three public member committee reviews applications of pro tem and judicial appointment candidates confidentially, and reports its recommendations as called for by the MBA's board-approved process. Committee roster.

Membership Committee

The committee organizes and plans social events, including WinterSmash, Battle of the Lawyer Bands, Bench, Bar & Bagels, and a First Thursday Social with specialty bars for the MBA membership at large. Committee roster.

Professionalism Committee

The committee promotes principles of professionalism within the Multnomah County bar, through the professionalism statement; works with the MBA Young Lawyers Section and staff on the MBA Mentor Program; administers the MBA Professionalism Award Nomination & Selection Process and writes the "Corner Office" column for the Multnomah Lawyer. The committee also works to increase members' formal commitment to providing pro bono legal representation for those who are in need by encouraging members to sign the Pro Bono Pledge.
