YLS Community Service Day with Friendly House

Making Holiday Cards for LGBT+ Seniors

Friendly House is a nonprofit that runs various programs for children, seniors, and other groups. A major Friendly House program is SAGE Metro Portland, which provides advocacy and services for LGBT+ elders. Eleven volunteers are needed to help make holiday cards for seniors in the program.

Volunteers will gather in the Friendly House administrative building. There will be cookies, hot cocoa and cider. You may use the craft supplies provided at the event, or you may bring your own. All levels of "craftiness" and artistic talent are welcome. All volunteers will be able to make beautiful, heartfelt cards.

You may also bring one or more $25 grocery store gift card(s) to be included in the holiday card(s) you will create. Volunteers who wish to give other types of gifts can further participate in the Holiday Giving program at Friendly House. To do so, please contact Carolina Fornario, Friendly House Events Specialist, at cfornario@friendlyhouseinc.org or 503.935.5268.

Ultimately, though, all you need to bring for our fun card-making event this December is your holiday cheer! If you'd like to sign up, please email il2259@columbia.edu as soon as possible; we anticipate that this will be a popular event.

Organized by the YLS Service to the Public Committee.
