Real Estate Insurance: COVID-19 Litigation and Transactional Matters

FREE for MBA members | $30 Non-members

This is part of a series of CLE seminars the MBA CLE Committee is offering to MBA members for FREE to help you navigate the current legal environment related to the COVID-19 virus. Seminar participation is available by remote attendance only via Zoom, a live videoconferencing software. You do not need to have a Zoom account in order to access the seminar and may attend using your computer or telephone. Additional information will be provided to registrants.

This course discusses both litigation and transactional matters relevant to the real estate attorney advising on property and casualty insurance issues. For litigators, this course offers arguments attorneys in both Oregon and throughout the United States have made regarding loss of profits for commercial real estate due to COVID-19. It discusses the provisions upon which carriers have voluntarily paid claims, coverage arguments litigators have employed to argue for coverage, and damage calculation arguments. For transactional attorneys, the course provides solutions to resolve six exclusions, which often result in unexpected exposure to commercial real estate insureds. Our speaker is Kelly McCann, Director of Real Estate at AssuredPartners, a commercial insurance brokerage. He holds a law degree in real estate law, a master’s degree in real estate finance, and a bachelor’s degree in finance.
