Working with Translators and Interpreters in Oregon

Melanie DeLeon-Benham, Certification and Training Coordinator for the OJD, will speak on practical skills for securing and working with interpreters to secure access for clients who are limited English proficient.  She will address some common misunderstandings regarding the role of interpreters, and discuss legal issues surrounding the use of interpreters and translators. This class will be particularly helpful for attorneys who rely on informal translators such as a friends or family members, attorneys who might work with deaf clients or witnesses, and attorneys working on matters involving translation or interpretation of testimony or documents.
